Transfer News: Naby Keita could still leave Liverpool this summer
According to a report by ESPN (h/t Liverpool Echo), midfielder Naby Keita could still depart Liverpool during the current summer transfer window.
The report adds that Keita, alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi, could be sold before deadline day. That would come as a surprise to the Liverpool fans, especially right now.
Jurgen Klopp has started the Guinean international in both of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season. The former RB Leipzig man impressed both times as the Reds have an unblemished record.
Keita has had a number of injury issues at the club since his move from Bundesliga, and that should not come as news to any Liverpool fan. But it seems like he has finally gotten rid of his demons and is finding his feet at the club.
Keita out?
If he maintains this form and fitness, the Reds may not need to sign any player to replace Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman, who is now a PSG player, left a void when it was announced that he would leave for Ligue 1.
Logic would have pointed towards Liverpool needing a replacement for the former Newcastle United man, considering how prevalent he was in Klopp’s starting XIs at the club.
Liverpool would have had two options- either to sign a player, or to play someone within their ranks in Wijnaldum’s position. As it turns out, Klopp has seemingly tilted towards using Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita this season in midfield.

Even Harvey Elliott, the 18-year-old prodigy, started for the Reds against Burnley in midfield. But if the aforementioned report is to be believed, and both the ‘Ox’ and Keita could be sold, then there would be little disagreement amongst the club’s fanbase regarding the club purchasing a new midfielder.
