Liverpool to compete with Leeds United for Mikkel Damsgaard
According to La Republica via Talksport (h/t Mirror), Liverpool will have competition from Leeds United for the signing of Mikkel Damsgaard. It is understood that the Sampdoria starlet who impressed in Euros with Denmark could cost around £34m to lure away.
It’s rather peculiar about how quiet Liverpool have been this year in the transfer window. An early deal for Ibrahima Konate was all the incoming business they conducted and the rest have mostly been outgoings. However, there is also the counter-argument that Liverpool are well settled in terms of their squad.
Whatever be the case, refreshing the squad in areas such as the midfield might be a good option given that someone as effective as Georginio Wijnaldum left the club. Liverpool have apparently kept their eyes on a similar player who impressed in Euros as well but for Denmark.
Mikkel Damsgaard is a name that is familiar by now as he lit up the tournament with his nation. The versatile playmaker’s freekick against England was something to watch on repeat as Denmark went all the way to the semis. It will not be easy prising away the Sampdoria starlet, lest we say cheap. Leeds United are also said to be after him and an amount of £34m could be needed to get him.

21-year-old Damsgaard is not just a prospect for the future. He has shown that he can cut it with the big boys of Europe. Liverpool need to bring in some fresh legs for the midfield with the likes of James Milner ageing. Getting Damsgaard will not be easy as Leeds are also after him. However, he can be a worthy acquisition.
