According to Jeunes Footeux (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have been joined by Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Jeremy Doku.
The 19-year-old is one of the best young talents currently and has attracted interest from several clubs this summer.
The Belgian arrived at Rennes last year and has impressed at the club as he managed 44 appearances across all competitions, including featuring 30 times in the Ligue as he managed 2 goals and 3 assists in the process.
Doku was selected by Roberto Martinez in the Belgium squad for the UEFA Euro 2020, and the 19-year-old went on to feature twice for his national team as he helped them to the quarter-final of the competition, where they bowed to eventual winners Italy.
Liverpool were said to be ‘lining up’ a £34million move for the winger earlier this month, however, those talks failed to materialize and the Reds started their Premier League season without any additions in the frontline.
Liverpool, who possess the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino, and Divock Origi, can do with a little youthful approach in the frontline. The departure of Xherdan Shaqiri needs to be addressed too.
Doku can play on either wing, and could also benefit the club for a long time to come, given his age and talent.
However, a move would be completely ruled out for the Reds if the North London outfit sign the 19-year-old, who would be the second teenager Spurs sign this summer after Pape Matar Sarr from Metz.
Jurgen Klopp & co. would be hoping that Spurs do not sign the youngster because the door would still remain open for Liverpool to try and orchestrate a move for the starlet in the future.
