Injury sustained by Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino vs Chelsea ‘not serious’

According to a tweet by Paul Joyce of The Times (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool striker, Roberto Firmino, will have a further assessment of the injury he sustained against Chelsea.

However, the initial diagnosis has revealed that the injury is not thought to be serious. When the Brazilian came off against the Blues last weekend, there were no real signs of an injury.

The 29-year-old jogged off the pitch in a fairly normal way. Diogo Jota was the man who came on for him just a few minutes before halftime.

The game was so intense that the majority of the fans’ attention went towards Firmino’s injury after full time. And the injury is apparently not serious pending further assessment.

Liverpool have strengthened in defence with the signing of Ibrahima Konate. However, they are weaker in attack with the departure of Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon and are yet to sign anyone to directly replace him.

Hence, Firmino’s role throughout the season would be crucial to the team and his fitness is of utmost importance if Jurgen Klopp’s men want to compete for titles on multiple fronts.

Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah are two capable replacements in the number 9 position, but their services would also be required out wide. Fans would have undoubtedly preferred a situation where the Reds added a big name in attack.
