Jordan Henderson believes Trent Alexander-Arnold would not shift from right-back to midfield position
According to Liverpool Echo, Jordan Henderson doesn’t believe Trent Alexander-Arnold will make the permanent switch from right-back to midfield anytime soon. The Liverpool right-back featured in the midfield position alongside Jordan Henderson and Jude Bellingham in the 4-0 win against Andorra.
England boss Gareth Southgate started Alexander-Arnold in the midfield role rather than his natural right-back position. Reece James was given the nod ahead by the England boss to start down the right flank. However, the experiment with Arnold in the midfield could only last for the first 45-minutes of the game.
James was substituted in the second half which saw Arnold take up his natural position at right-back. He nearly assisted Lingard on his hattrick goal but the Andorra defenders blocked the shot going inside the net. Arnold looked more comfortable in his preferred position on the field.
England captain Jordan Henderson shared his thoughts and suggested that Arnold would not make a switch from right-back to midfield anytime soon.
“Trent did some good things. Obviously, it was his first time really in that position so he’s learning all the time, it’s a new experience for him. He did really well.
“But at the minute he is so good at right-back especially at club level, that I don’t see changing in the near future.”
The England boss, speaking to ITV (h/t Liverpool Echo), explained his decision to start Alexander-Arnold in the midfield position.
“We know that he is an outstanding footballer – we’ve wanted to have a look at him in the midfield position for a while.”

Despite him starting the midfield position for the England national team, Jordan Henderson believed he would not make the switch from his natural position at club level and perhaps Jurgen Klopp would be in agreement with the England international given how good he is in the right-back position.
Arnold recently signed a long-term deal with Liverpool that will keep him at the club until 2025. Jurgen Klopp’s title challenge resumes from 12th September as his team will face off against Leeds United away from home.
