Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk provides update after an injury scare with Netherlands
According to Express, Virgil van Dijk’s injury against Turkey is nothing more than an impact injury. The Liverpool defender was involved in a tackle late in stoppage time in a 6-1 win over Turkey in the World Cup qualifiers.
Van Dijk, who is back with the Netherland squad after missing out on Euros 2020, was involved in a tackle that left Liverpool fans concerned. He had missed out a big part of the last season due to an ACL injury. However, the defender himself made it clear it was nothing more than an impact injury.
Liverpool missed their talisman in the heart of their defence last season as they finished 3rd in the Premier League table. However, after spending nine months on the sidelines, the player is back to match fitness for club and the country. He made his return to the Netherlands national team in the qualifiers against Turkey.
The Netherlands national team also felt his absence in Euros 2020 as they could only manage to reach the Round of 16 where the Czech Republic knocked them out of the tournament. Manchester United teammate Donny van de Beek also stressed how the Netherlands team missed the presence of van Djik.
The routine 6-0 victory was easy going for the Dutch central defender until his goalkeeper forced him to go into a tackle over an under-hit pass. The defender felt the strong tackle and was sent up in the air. However, the player calmed the nerves of Liverpool supporters stating it was just an impact injury. (h/t Express)
“I’m fine luckily. I’m already over it. Maybe because I am so big, they think I am acting, Because when I go down, it goes in quite a slow way.”
