The former Liverpool winger, now turned co-commentator on BT Sport, played down any fears regarding Liverpool’s summer transfer activity. Speaking to Liverpool Echo, he said:
“And there is Harvey Elliot, who has come into the team and looks a star in the making. You could see start away he was talented boy, and I watched him a lot at the Academy in that first season.”
After losing Gini Wijnaldum, the young 18-year old has stepped up for his team and is now trusted by his manager. The young midfielder started in the Premier League games against Norwich City and Chelsea and is seen as a promising talent to shine at Anfield.
Elliot, before making it into the first team under Jurgen Klopp this season, had an impressive loan spell at Blackburn Rovers where the youngster scored 7 goals in 41 appearances and handed out 11 assists to his teammates in the EFL Championship.
McManaman also compared Manchester United’s summer arrival with Liverpool’s Harvey Elliot suggesting that academy players are good enough for the Liverpool first team. He added:
