Tottenham starlet aims dig at Liverpool after Under-23s victory

Alfie Devine was released by Liverpool when he was 11 but scored a brace against them this weekend

According to Liverpool Echo, former Liverpool academy youngster Alfie Devine has aimed a dig at the Premier League giants after scoring a brace against them for the Tottenham U-23s this weekend.

Having been released by the Liverpool academy when he was 11, Devine was raised through the Wigan youth academy.

He made a switch from Wigan to Spurs last summer and also became the youngest ever player to represent the North London club when he made his debut against Marine in an FA Cup clash in January 2021. Once a Liverpool academy prospect the player now plays his football in U-23 set up at Tottenham.

The 17-year old had a chance to make his presence known in a U-23 fixture against the Reds this weekend. And the teenager made the most of his chance, scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory on Saturday. Kaide Gordon put the Reds in front early in the game but it would not be enough for his side as Devine replied with his two goals which saw Spurs take all three points.

After his performance against the Reds, Devine took to Instagram and poked fun at Liverpool following their decision to let him go at the age of 11, he wrote:

“It always comes back to haunt them…two goals”

The 17-year old Spurs player has had a good start to this season, he has now scored three goals in four games for the Lilywhites. The win for the North London club against the Reds saw them climb up to the 5th position in the PL2 Divison 1 table, while the Reds after four games are in the 7th position.
