According to Calciomercato (h/t The Express), Liverpool are in the process of getting Naby Keita to sign a new contract at the club.
The Reds, who have recently renewed the contracts of the likes of Alisson Becker, Jordan Henderson, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho, and Trent Alexander Arnold, are on course to extend more deals with Naby Keita the next one on the periphery.
Keita joined the club back in July 2018 after agreeing to sign for the club in January earlier that year. Although the Guinean has featured in 80 appearances
for the club in the last 3 years, he has failed to produce the same performances as he managed so regularly with RB Leipzig before making the move to England.Consistent game-time was hard to come by as the likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum made a strong case to start every week.
However, even though the latter left the club for PSG this summer, starting every week was not a guarantee at the start of the current season.
This is because the Reds made the addition of Thiago Alcantara last summer while Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot have been promoted to the senior setup in the past couple of seasons. But, given that Elliot recently suffered a dislocated ankle injury, Keita could play more often, evident by his start against AC Milan in mid-week.
Moreover, since the midfielder’s contract is up in 2023, an extension is a smart move as the Anfield outfit may not want to lose the 26-year-old on a free transfer like they lost Wijnaldum.
However, Keita would also have his focus on things on the pitch as the Reds gear up to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.
