Journo claims Liverpool are keen to sign 18-year-old English starlet in midfield

Liverpool keeping tabs on Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham

According to Bild’s Christian Falk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are keen on bringing Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham to Anfield.

The 18-year-old moved to the WestfalenStadion last summer and has since gone from strength to strength. A regular for Dortmund, he was named in the England squad for the Euros earlier this year.

He recently became the youngest player to score in back-to-back games in the UEFA Champions League. Bellingham has, so far, made 54 appearances for the Germans, scoring six goals and assisting eight more

According to the report, Liverpool could be set to make an attempt to bring the 18-year-old to Merseyside. Curiously, however, manager Jurgen Klopp has in the past chosen against raiding his former side.

Bellingham is however a special talent and the German will be well off making an exception. Speaking on the issue, Falk admits that while Bellingham could eventually return to England, it is increasingly likely that he will spend at least another season at Dortmund.

“The contact with the club is also relatively good, but it will be difficult, especially since he still has a longer contract. I think he will end up on the island at some point, but unlike [Erling Braut] Haaland, Dortmund fans can be hopeful that he will definitely play at least one more season.”

The next great reds midfielder?

The youngster has the potential to be an excellent long-term asset for the club. That being said Bellingham’s game time could take a major hit should he move to Anfield next summer.

He would have tough competition from other experienced midfielders like Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, and a host of other players. However, the aforementioned trio is all in their thirties and will need to be replaced soon.

In Bellingham, Liverpool will not only land themselves a player for the future but also one who can be relied upon to take the field from the word go. After all, Klopp has shown with Elliott that he isn’t afraid to give youth a chance.

The passing of the baton?
