In conversation with Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), Graeme Souness spoke about Liverpool and their dominance in the Premier League.
The Liverpool legend opines that the Reds are one of the three clubs that are far ahead of the rest in the Premier League. He spoke about his list of top clubs in the PL ahead of Tottenham vs Arsenal this past Sunday, implying that Liverpool, along with Chelsea and the Manchester clubs were far ahead of the rest of the chasing pack.
“When you look at the four big teams, Manchester teams, Liverpool, Chelsea, I think three of them are so far from the rest so far. Right now they’re so far ahead of the rest”
Despite having some injury scares, Liverpool remain unbeaten this season across all competitions. Both Manchester United and Chelsea recorded their first loss in this PL campaign this game week. This saw Liverpool take the top spot in the League table.
The Reds could have opened up an even greater lead at the top but a disappointing draw to Brentford meant that they have a one-point lead over the trailing 4 teams on the Prem table.
Souness drew comparisons between the current top 4 clubs in the PL with the North London teams.
“When you look at investment Man City, Chelsea, and Man United have and Liverpool are in great shape, I think it’ll be a long way back for the two North London teams looking at them and the direction they’re going in.”
The Merseysiders were relatively quiet in the transfer window with Ibrahima Konate the only substantial addition. Klopp has been mindful of rotating his players for different matches as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Konate have all started in defence for Liverpool this season. The club has managed to pull off some great results with different squads but there is still a long way to go in this season.
Mohamed Salah has also found his form early in the season scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists in 6 Premier League matches. The Reds would be looking to continue this same form of run as the domestic and European matches will come thick and fast. Klopp will be hoping to secure some silverware this season after the injury woes of last campaign.
