Liverpool target Jude Bellingham compared to Wayne Rooney hype by former PL player Michael Ball.
In conversation with ‘This is Futbol’ (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Premier League player Michael Ball has compared the excitement surrounding Liverpool target Jude Bellingham to that of a young Wayne Rooney coming through the ranks.
The 18-year-old has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. The youngster has become an important part of this Borussia Dortmund team.
It is believed that Liverpool are open to doing a deal worth £80 million to sign Bellingham. If the youngster is purchased for that amount it would make him a club-record signing for the Reds. The teenager could be a great long-term asset for the club. The 18-year-old has already recorded 1 goal and 1 assist in 7 Bundesliga games this season.
Bellingham started his Champions League campaign in a great manner. He scored 1 goal and assisted 1 time in Dortmund’s first match of the CL season against Besiktas.
The former Birmingham City player would also add some attacking impetus and give Jurgen Klopp the ability to rotate his midfield after players like Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Harvey Elliot have been ruled out with injuries at the start of the season.
Former Everton defender, Michael Ball, commented about the hype that surrounded Wayne Rooney and claimed that Bellingham too was generating similar excitement.
“A lot of people were talking about Wayne Rooney and he hadn’t played a game of senior football and it was like he wasn’t real until you actually go out and see the youth games.”
“I knew Jude Bellingham for quite a while, heard of him, when he was 13 or 14 years old. Birmingham were bigging him up but you were thinking ‘he’s at Birmingham, he’s not going to be the star that people are making out’ but he’s surpassed that already.”
Rooney went on to make his senior Premier League debut at the age of 16. The striker went on to become a legend and captained England as well as Manchester United.
Bellingham still has a long way to go in his career. The Merseyside team would be really lucky to land such prised asset. He has certainly shown the skills and talent that could help him become a world-beater one day.
