Liverpool told UEFA’s stance regarding disciplinary action for Super League involvement

UEFA decides against finining European Super League clubs including Liverpool

According to the statement by UEFA (h/t Liverpool Echo), UEFA has dropped any disciplinary charges against Liverpool and the other founding members of the European Super League.

The inception of the ESL caused pandemonium throughout the footballing community. The situation escalated to such a position that Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Inter Milan had to withdraw from the proposed League and issue apology statements to its fans.

UEFA had proposed

taking disciplinary action against all these teams. The European footballing body had also gone to court against Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus who are the remaining 3 members of the Super League.

The football governing body had initially thought of imposing a combined fee of €15m along with deducting 5% of their revenue from any European competition for one season. UEFA’s official statements hint that they do not want any unnecessary complication which is why they have chosen to withdraw any of the disciplinary charges against Liverpool and the other concerned teams.

The clubs have had to suffer major financial losses due to the pandemic. Like a majority of businesses around the globe, football, without its fans, meant reduced income for teams. Football stopping altogether for weeks during the height of the pandemic was financially devastating for the teams.

The European footballing body has made it clear that it would try and stop the formation of any such League which in their opinion is against the interest of UEFA and its various footballing stakeholders. While the fans are clearly against it, there have been mixed reactions to the inception of such a League from footballing bodies and personalities.

Some of the clubs could view it as a way to get some much-needed financial stability after enduring a tough time in the last couple of seasons. On the other hand, UEFA and its other sponsors would opine that any such League goes against the footballing principles of the European clubs.
