Gareth Southgate faces defensive worries for England after Trent Alexander-Arnold injury concern
According to Daily Mirror, Gareth Southgate could face defensive worries as Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool is among the main defenders who could miss England’s upcoming internationals due to injury.
The 22-year-old wing-back has become an integral part of Liverpool’s backline. He has also proved his dominance at the international level for England time and again. The Young defender didn’t travel with the Reds squad to Portugal for their UEFA Champions League clash against Porto.
Jurgen Klopp has also mentioned that Trent Alexander-Arnold is most likely to miss the game against Manchester City on the weekend. This has handed Gareth Southgate a new concern as Harry Maguire and Reece James are also out due to injuries.
England faces Andorra and Hungary in their World Cup qualifiers next month. These special circumstances could prompt Southgate to look at some of the players who have flown under the radar recently. Ben White could get a chance to make an impact with the Three Lions due to the team’s injury concerns at the back.
Alexander-Arnold had a forgettable game against Brentford last weekend in the Premier League as Liverpool conceded 3 goals for the first time this campaign. He hasn’t featured for the Reds in a competitive match since then. The 22-year-old wing-back provides a lot of attacking threat along the wings.

The youngster’s marauding runs up the field would be sorely missed by the England manager. Kyle Walker would be the most likely replacement in that position as the Manchester City defender brings a lot of experience with him. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence could be a big disappointment for Liverpool as well as the national team due to the creative impetus that he brings to both squads.
