Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold to miss Manchester City clash
According to Jurgen Klopp’s conversation with the club’s official website (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool will take on defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend sans Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 22-year-old missed Liverpool’s latest UEFA Champions League tie against Porto. A match that the Reds won 5-1. City will, however, represent sterner opposition. Trent and Thiago Alcantara will be Liverpool’s high profile absentees against City.
Speaking on the issue, Klopp revealed that the duo is doing well. Unfortunately, this titanic clash against Pep Guardiola’s side has some a tad too soon.
“No ‘news’ means they are doing well but they won’t have enough time for being back against City, but I expect them both to be back after the international break.
Klopp expects both of his stars to become available for contention after the International break. The onus is now on his side to see off City this weekend. The tie is a potential six-pointer in the Premier League title race.
Alexander-Arnold has been an instrumental part of Liverpool’s backline in the last few seasons and a difference-maker on his night. He brings a dash of creativity and attacking threat to this team which has proven crucial in the final third of the pitch.
James Milner and Joe Gomez filled in for the 22-year-old defender in Portugal. That being said Man City could be a much sterner test and the defending Premier League champions would certainly look to target this setback.
Thiago Alcantara hasn’t featured for the Reds since being substituted against Crystal Palace in the PL, earlier in the season. The Spaniard has sustained an injury to his calf which renders him unavailable.
