Former Reds forward Joe Cole urges Liverpool to go after Juventus star Federico Chiesa
In conversation with Coral via Metro (h/t Liverpool Echo), ex-Liverpool forward has Joe Cole urges Liverpool to make the move for 23-year-old Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
The Azzuri winger has become an important part of the Italian club ever since he arrived at Turin. Juventus have had a slow start to the season but the youngster has managed to make an impact on the big stage. It is believed that Liverpool could plot a bid in the region of £86m.
Chiesa scored the only goal in Chelsea’s latest UEFA Champions League match against Chelsea to seal the victory for his club. He has also scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in 6 Serie A games this season. The young winger is on loan from ACF Fiorentina but has become integral to Massimiliano Allegri’s squad. Liverpool have also been linked with another Fiorentina striker Dušan Vlahović.
Former Liverpool Joe Cole shared his thoughts on the Merseyside team and their apparent interest in the Italian winger
“It was an indifferent summer for Liverpool. I was surprised they didn’t go out and bring in a superstar. Like what Sir Alex Ferguson used to do when they would win trophies. They’d go again and double down, they’d bring someone in who might sort of ruffle feathers. Someone like Chiesa is an absolute perfect player from Juventus for Liverpool, the way he plays.”
How could Chiesa’s affect the Liverpool squad?
Federico Chiesa could be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad and add some depth in the attacking department at Anfield should he make the switch to Liverpool. The Reds have lost an important attacking player in Gini Wijnaldum this season.
Despite last season’s injury crisis, the Merseysiders were relatively quiet in the last transfer window with Ibrahima Konate being the only notable addition. The Anfield outfit would be looking to add some reinforcements to the squad.
Liverpool have enjoyed a great start to the season. They are currently unbeaten across all competitions in this campaign and sit on top of the Premier League table. With a hectic schedule and an ageing forward lineup, Federico Chiesa could certainly ease Klopp’s worries by helping to rotate his attacking players aptly.

The Italian winger may have to fight for his place in this Liverpool first team, but he has shown his importance in the big games and could be an amazing replacement should any of the Merseysider’s top attackers become unavailable for selection. His addition could also create a more healthy and competitive environment for the Reds, but any such move or rumour can only be considered tentative at this moment.
