Transfer News: Liverpool coach monitoring 23-year-old Eredivisie goalkeeper

Transfer News: Liverpool monitoring 23-year-old Feyenoord Rotterdam goalkeeper Justin Bijlow

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are said to be monitoring Dutch goalkeeper Justin Bijlow of Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Alisson Becker has played an instrumental part in Liverpool’s lineup ever since he joined the side from AS Roma. He played a pivotal role in helping the Merseyside team achieve important silverware such as UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and the Premier League.

Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg had made the recommendation about the Brazilian keeper to the team management. The 29-year-old shot-stopper has proven to be worthy of his hefty £65m

price tag.

Achterberg also commented on the progress being made by the 23-year-old dutch keeper:

“The steps Feyenoord keeper Justin Bijlow is making at club level – and also with Holland – are good. I speak to his goalkeeping coach at Feyenoord, Khalid Benlahsen, from time to time. I’m just saying that I’m watching his progress – I’m not saying that Liverpool should look at him.”

The Reds have relied heavily on Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher has proved to be a great understudy. His progress at the club is very evident but that being said he hasn’t yet cemented his place as the Brazilian’s successor in between the sticks.

Another addition at the goalkeeping position could help Jurgen Klopp rotate his squad for various competitions and would also help create a healthier competitive environment in that position. The Feyenoord keeper could also be a great long-term prospect for the club.

The goalkeeping coach of the Merseysiders also highlighted that the Premier League is played at a much faster pace and it could take some time for keepers coming from different leagues to adapt to the game.

Achterberg shares a cordial relationship with Alexander Doni. He played for the Reds in a brief period of time after joining the club in 2011. He was the one to notify the goalkeeping coach about Alisson’s potential to develop as a dependable goalkeeper.

That transfer seems to have worked out great and Liverpool could certainly do with another keeper at the back. There hasn’t been any official interest stated from the Merseyside club until now but Achterberg’s track record could make the management at Anfield give this player a serious thought.
