Transfer News: Barcelona are believed to be interested in Liverpool forward Divock Origi
According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Express), Barcelona could be interested in signing 26-year-old Liverpool forward Divock Origi.
The Catalan giants have been going through a phase of financial problems with the debts mount high and above. This forced the club to let go of its living legend Lionel Messi along with giving several of its veteran players like Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Gerard Pique significant wage cuts.
At the same time, the club have brought in several players like Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Luuk De Jong to help stage a rebuild at Camp Nou. According to the report, the Spanish club could be in the market for a new attacking player to strengthen their squad.
Divock Origi is thought to be on Barca’s list of suitable attackers. The Belgian has been an instrumental part of Liverpool in the big games as his exploits in the semi-final and final of the 2019 UEFA Champions League played a big role in helping the Reds secure the title.
The 26-year-old has been a reliable backup and put in a solid performance in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory against AC Milan in their first CL match of this campaign. He also scored in the Merseyside team’s 3-0 win over Norwich City in their last Carabao Cup fixture. The Belgian forward has scored 36 goals and provided 16 assists in 161 matches across all competitions for the Reds.
Origi has struggled to nail down a starting position at Anfield of late as the Reds possess some of the best attackers in the world in the form of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino. Replacing any of them can be a tough task especially after their impressive performances in the last few seasons.

The Belgian would also be looking to go to a place where he could feature more regularly in the first team. Barcelona are also reportedly interested in signing Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling. Divock Origi has played an important part in Liverpool’s success in the last few years even though he may not have got the same recognition as the others. Any switch to another club seems imminent sooner rather than later for the 26-year-old Belgian forward.
