Transfer News: Liverpool could move for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio
According to Spanish outlet ABC (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are weighing up a move for 25-year-old Spain International Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.
It is believed that the player has become increasingly frustrated with his lack of quality game time with the senior squad. According to the report, Juventus and AC Milan are also interested in the Madrid forward. The Spanish International only has two years left on his current contract.
The Reds have been linked with the 25-year-old forward in the past and it is believed that they could rekindle their interest. The former RCD Mallorca player impressed in the early stages of his career at Real Madrid and was an essential part of Los Blancos’ success during that time.
Despite that, Asensio hasn’t featured as much as he would like in the recent past. The Spanish forward has played only 221 cumulative minutes for the La Liga side this season across all competitions in which he has scored 3 goals for the club.
Jurgen Klopp has become heavily reliant on this attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Mohamed Salah in the recent past. The inclusion of Diogo Jota helped ease some of the burden on their shoulders and enabled the German manager to rotate his players upfront for different matches.
That being said, Klopp could definitely use another attacker in his ranks. It could bolster this Liverpool squad and help the boss rotate his squad and preserve the fitness of some of his top players. With the departure of Xherdan Shaqiri and uncertainty looming over the future of Divock Origi, the addition of a forward with Marco Asensio’s qualities could help the club compete at a higher level across different competitions in the future.
