Transfer News: Liverpool face Arsenal and Everton in battle to sign Sadio Mane’s Senegal teammate Pape Abou Cisse

Liverpool are said to be leading the race to sign Pape Abou Cisse ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal and Everton, according to Daily Mail Online. The three clubs have been keeping tabs on the defender for quite some time to solidify their backline.

The report states that scouts were sent by the three Premier League clubs to Istanbul in a Europa League match where Olympiacos beat Fenerbahce 3-0 away from home and the centre-back impressed with flying colours.

Keeping a clean sheet against the current Turkish league leaders is no small feat but this was not a one-off game either as the Greek champions have only let in two goals in five league matches.

Following his performances, the 26-year-old has earned a spot in Liverpool’s shortlist for transfer signings. The Reds have apparently shown more intent to sign him compared to their competitors as per the report.

Another Senegalese at Anfield?

Having missed no games so far this season, Cisse is set to play a key role in defending the title.

With Ibrahim Konate’s arrival at Anfield, the Merseyside club have strengthened their defensive solidity. However, last season was evident that a few injuries to the backline could derail the chances of winning a title.

It seems like the Reds are not taking any chances this time around and with their interest in Cisse, they would be hoping to add him to the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Konate.

If the defender chooses a move to Liverpool, he could expect to compete with Abdou Diallo and Kalidou Koulibaly in his national team as playing for quite arguably the biggest English club would increase his exposure in the mainstream footballing sphere.

Mane, Cisse’s international teammate could also play a role in helping him adjust to life in England should he decide to sign for the Reds.
