Transfer News: Lille are open to selling Liverpool target Renato Sanches in January provided the price is right

LOSC Lille midfielder Renato Sanches was linked to Liverpool during the summer transfer window. Speaking to BFM Lille (h/t The Express), the Lille president has told that they would be open to selling him should they receive a concrete offer from a top club in January.

The Portuguese star joined the French club from Bayern Munich in 2019 for a fee of £23 million

. The midfielder had a tough time in Germany where he was not able to build upon his early promise.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked to a move to Anfield following Georginio Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain. Liverpool were in the market to bolster their midfield but the transfer never came to fruition.

Sanches has had a great time in France and has rekindled what looked to be a flagging career. He played a key role in Lille’s journey to winning the Ligue 1 last season. With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2023, it is no wonder that the French champions are willing to sell him.

“I have already discussed with him, if an offer from a big club arrives, Renato will be able to leave. We will see what will happen.”

It remains to be seen whether the Reds would try their hand again for the Portuguese player. The report also states that Liverpool will be facing competition from their Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Lille president Olivier Letang has previously revealed that Sanches was set to leave the club in the summer. He went on to add that an agreement was in place with a ‘big club’ for his transfer and it would have been finalised if not for his knee injury.

With the Portuguese national set to recover from his injury, he may once again reignite interest among Europe’s big boys. Only time will tell if the Merseyside club will be the ones to land him.
