“We need solutions”- Klopp laments lack of support after crucial South American stars ruled out for Liverpool vs Watford

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool to fly out Alisson Becker and Fabinho directly to Spain

According to Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed in his press conference that they will be missing Alisson Becker and Fabinho against Watford. The Reds have decided to fly out the Brazilian duo to Madrid for their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

The Liverpool duo were in a race against time to feature against the Hornets. However, with less than 36 hours between their last match against Uruguay and the match at Vicarage Road, it was a task that would prove impossible.

Fabinho was in action for the South American Qualifier against Uruguay as they won 4-1 at home. The Reds goalkeeper was on the bench as Ederson Moraes was chosen ahead of him.

“The decision is the boys will go directly to Madrid and wait for us. They will come back slightly later back than us and come back in normal procedure.”

Klopp was particularly disappointed with the lack of help from the Football Association. The 54-year-old was also quick to point out the support that Atletico Madrid have instead received from La Liga.

Klopp mentioned how the Premier League and Watford did not heed their request of postponing the game by a few hours. In his presser (h/t Liverpool Echo), he said:

“But neither Watford nor the Premier League was open to that. It is their understanding of fair competition, and that’s how it is. We deal with it.”

The Reds duo will travel to Spain and prepare for the match against Atleti ahead of their squad. They will be able to avoid the 10-day quarantine requirement by staying in Spain until the time has passed.

Earlier, the UK government had an agreement with clubs that would make professional footballers quarantine in a club facility instead of a Government approved hotel. There was a condition that only fully vaccinated individuals would be able to avail this benefit.

All things said and done, it would appear that the Reds have chosen a course of action that could be considered shrewd, should they win both games.
