Liverpool and Juventus in pursuit of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. They however face competition from Seria A giants Juventus who are also planning a move for him next summer.
The 26-year-old has made a really good start in the league this season. He has already scored thrice and assisted twice in just eight Serie A matches. He notably scored a goal against defending Champions Inter Milan in their 3-1 win last weekend.
The Serbian international was apparently a subject of interest for the Reds last summer. It was also claimed that the English club was given a valuation of £67.7 million for the midfielder.
Juventus who usually have their eye on the best Serie A talents are once again involved. Massimiliano Allegri’s side are in a state of rebuild and are aiming to add Milinkovic-Savic to their squad next summer.
However, given the Serbian international’s form so far it is unlikely that the Lazio have changed their valuation. With his current deal running until 2024, Le Aquile hold all the aces in negotiations.
Looking at Juve’s financial issues, it is unlikely that they would be able to match Lazio’s asking price. Meaning the Merseyside club could have a bigger chance of signing the midfielder if it came to a direct duel.
In Lucas Leiva, Pepe Reina and Luis Alberto, Lazio have three former Liverpool players in their ranks. Whether any of them can put a word in Milinkovic-Savic’s ear regarding a move to Anfield remains to be seen.

Following Georginio Wijnaldum’s move to Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool are thin in their midfield options. With James Milner nearing the end of his career and the fitness issues of Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara, it could be a good idea to sign someone who is not only in his prime but can be an answer for years to come.
