Liverpool have added Elijah Dixon-Bonner to their Champions League squad for the match against Atletico Madrid

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have added young prospect Elijah Dixon-Bonner to their Champions League squad ahead of tonight’s mouth-watering clash against Atletico Madrid.

The 20-year-old has travelled with the first-team squad to Wanda Metropolitano for their fixture tonight. While it is debatable if he will play a role on the field, the experience will hold him in good stead.

Dixon-Bonner is usually a part of the club’s U-23 side and appears to have made an impression on Jurgen Klopp and co. The teenager would be excited to get this opportunity and it will help him to get accustomed to such atmospheres.

The midfielder has been at the club since 2015 and has since risen through the ranks. He was also part of the open training session on Monday and was pictured alongside the club’s first-team players.

Dixon-Bonner has previously made one appearance for the first team in a FA Cup fixture. He came on as a substitute as the Reds beat Shrewsbury Town 1-0 in 2020. Although unlikely as it may be, the midfielder would be hoping to get some minutes against the La Liga champions.

The 24-man squad for the Champion League was declared at the start of this month by Jurgen Klopp. However, teams are allowed to register more players in the B list as long as they meet certain criteria.

The Merseyside club would be hoping to secure all three points as they look to keep their winning start to the competition going. Diego Simeone’s men are their biggest threat for the top spot and Liverpool could hand them an early blow with a win tonight.

Victory will not just build confidence within Klopp’s squad but also lay the demons of our 2019/20 defeat to the same opposition to rest.
