Transfer News: Liverpool leading the race for Club Brugge ace Noa Lang

According to the Italian news source CalcioMercato (h/t Shields Gazette), Liverpool are leading the race to land impressive young Dutch star Noa Lang. The 22-year-old is amongst the best young talents currently in Europe.

The Club Brugge forward caught the limelight with his performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. He overshadowed PSG’s ‘Galatico’ front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior, and Kylian Mbappe on the night.

With four goals and five assists in 14 matches this season, he has been great for the Belgian club. His performances have also earned him a national team call up for the October World Cup Qualifiers.

Lang made his debut on October 8 against Latvia as the Netherlands won the match 1-0 away at Daugava. He initially made his senior bow at Ajax Amsterdam before moving to Brugge on loan in 2010/20. His performances were enough to convince the Blauw-Zwart to make the deal permanent in 2021.

The report states that the Reds are close to signing the 22-year-old, beating the likes of Arsenal and Leeds United. The Merseyside club would be getting themselves a fine option in attack should a deal be finalized.

Following his exposure in the match against PSG, the Dutch winger has drawn several comparisons with Neymar. His playing style is similar to the Brazilian and it is fair to say that hopes are high regarding his potential.

Since Liverpool may be looking to bolster their attack following Xherdan Shaqiri’s departure to Olympic Lyon, Lang could be the answer to their problems. He could also add more quality and much-needed depth as a safeguard against potential injuries.

With the Reds’ vaunted front three also approaching their thirties or already there, Lang could also emerge as one of the attackers to take up the mantle in the years to come.
