“The way we spend”- Ex-PL ace asks Liverpool to sign reinforcements in the summer

Former Reds star Jose Enrique believes Liverpool should sign strengthen their squad in the 2022 summer transfer window

Speaking to Metro in association with BeMyBet, Jose Enrique has advised Liverpool to sign some reinforcements in the 2022 summer transfer window. He followed it up by listing a set of players that the club could look into.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have started their campaign in brilliant form and are yet unbeaten this season. Enrique however remains wary of injuries that could hit the squad as the season goes on. Not something unlikely given our luck last season.

The former Liverpool defender says that the club missed a trick in the summer by not taking appropriate measures. He feels that they need backup in three different areas of the pitch.

Jose Enrique believes Liverpool need reinforcements.

Enrique believes the Reds could do with not just another striker and a right-back but also a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. All three remain crucial areas and hopefully, we have enough cover for them this season.

“Someone up front, I would not have let Gini go, but I understand Harvey [Elliott] has come into the team, even with his injury he has done so well. I would have signed a right-back as well.”

The Spaniard has also drawn up a list of players his former club could look into. He also named two players from La Liga who he believes are really good options for strengthening the frontline.

“[Kylian] Mbappe or [Erling] Haaland are maybe not realistic to the way we spend, but someone like [Alexander] Isak from Real Sociedad, I really like this player. A player at Villarreal, [Arnaut] Danjuma who played for Bournemouth he’s doing really well in Villarreal, I like him.”

Jose Enrique as a player for Liverpool

It is imperative that Liverpool infuse young blood into the playing squad next summer. The Reds squad is potent but ageing and we need to invest if the club is serious to build a dynasty.

While Enrique’s options are interesting, it remains to be seen whether the English club will heed his advice. As for his suggestions about reinforcements, that is a valid point as Liverpool know from first-hand experience how injuries can derail a season.
