Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool are interested in Brazilian ace Raphinha
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast (h/t Liverpool Echo), reliable Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Raphinha is a transfer target for many clubs including Liverpool. The Leeds United star has been linked with a move to Anfield consistently.
The Leeds forward has impressed for both club and country this season. His performances at Elland Road recently earned him his first call-up for Brazil. He has so far enjoyed an excellent start for the Selecao by scoring two goals and assists a[iece in three matches.
In the Premier League, the 24-year-old has scored thrice in seven appearances in the current campaign. Raphinha is at this point in time one of the few shining lights in a struggled Leeds United side.
His current contract at the club will only expire in 2024. This gives the Whites the advantage in negotiations. That is assuming they will even listen to offers. They were not keen to sell in the summer and little appears to have changed.
“At the moment with Leeds it’s not an easy moment. It’s true that Liverpool wanted him as his agent revealed, but Leeds had no plans to sell him.”
The Italian journalist went on to add that the Merseyside club will face heavy competition from other clubs for the winger’s signature. Whether they can trump the others to land Raphinha remains to be seen.
Agent Fab?
Earlier, talking to UOL (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool midfielder Fabinho had said that he would have liked to see the winger at Liverpool. Whether the midfielder will prove to be a prophet remains to be seen.
“Since he [Raphinha] arrived in the Premier League he has had very good performances and highlights. For Liverpool, I was hoping that would happen. But in the end, he stayed with Leeds.”
