Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes Sadio Mane is back to his best

According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp believes his star winger Sadio Mane is back to his best this season.

The Senegalese international endured a difficult 2020/21 campaign that saw him net just 16 times while assisting nine more in 48 games. While it may not sound as dire, it has been a significant drop-off from the performance levels we have come to expect from the 29-year-old.

Mane has started this season well and already has eight goals in 14 games. He appears to have rediscovered his mojo and is once again a player to be feared.

Sadio Mane had a difficult time in the 2020/21 season.

Klopp believes his winger is in top form at the moment. It was perfectly exemplified by the dogged nature of his strike against Atletico Madrid in midweek.

“He is in top shape and in a top moment.”

Mane was kicked and hounded by the Spanish side’s stars all night. He however shrugged it all off to slice through their defence for Liverpool’s second on the night. Klopp was obviously ecstatic about the player’s showing and admits the performance in a nutshell exemplifies his rekindled confidence.

“That sums up the shape that Sadio is in at the moment, which is pretty good.”

Both Mane and Mohamed Salah have started the season in red hot form. With Roberto Firmino ruled out for at least a month, the onus will be on Mane and co to lead the line.

If his recent showings have proved anything, he is certainly up for the challenge.

Mane was taken off at half-time against Atletico amidst fears that he could be sent off. It does however afford him some rest ahead of the game against West ham United.

Given his current mood, the Hammers have much to fear at the moment.
