Transfer News: Manchester City enter the race for Liverpool target Hwang Hee-chan as Wolves scramble for permanent deal
According to The Mirror (h/t Liverpool.Echo), Premier League big boys Liverpool are joined by Manchester City in the race to sign on-loan Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan.
Hwang, on loan from RB Leipzig, has scored four goals in eight Premier League games this season and has seemingly impressed the Reds with his performances.
Liverpool are set to lose Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to AFCON from December for a couple of months and as some of the title races in the past few seasons have shown, every single point matters over the course of the season.
The South Korean has been fantastic in his short time at The Molineux but it would be a tricky deal to complete in January. Hwang’s temporary contract only expires in June 2022 which means if the Reds want him in January, they would need to reach an agreement with both Wolves and RB Leipzig.
Wolves, who have an option to buy Hwang, are aware of the interest from their Premier League rivals and will themselves be hoping to tie him up permanently to fend off any competition.
The 25-year-old joined German outfit, Leipzig, in 2020 from RB Salzburg after five years in Austria and made a name for himself there.
Liverpool might have to worry about interest from Man City as well because of their financial capabilities and lack of firepower in front of goal. Pep Guardiola himself is short of the striker after losing Sergio Aguero to Barcelona in the summer.
Liverpool are currently fourth on the points table, having lost 5 points from their last two games in the Premier League. They lost to West Ham United last week and drew with Brighton a fortnight ago.

Jurgen Klopp would be hoping that he gets some financial backing in the winter transfer from the owners else it could be a long season ahead keeping in mind the form of Chelsea and City. With the Reds chasing silverware on all four fronts, depth across the pitch would certainly help the club’s chances.
