Transfer News: Liverpool face fresh competition from AC Milan for Renato Sanches
According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Liverpoolecho), AC Milan have joined Liverpool in the race to sign LOSC Lille player Renato Sanches.
Despite suffering from injuries, the Portuguese international showed his potential while playing for League 1 side Lille and on a few occasions for the Portugal side.
He scored the opening goal in Portugal’s recent loss to Serbia. In that game, he looked sharp and was one of the best performers for his national side.
Despite having a dynamic and robust midfield lineup, Liverpool couldn’t contain their triumphant Premier League run in the last few games. Furthermore, at the starting of the season, Mohamed Salah’s impeccable consistency and world-class output earned all the headlines leaving midfield problems unanswered.
Despite the inclusion of 20-year-old Curtis Jones in the midfield region, the average age of the Reds midfield remain a concern due to the growing age of key players. Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Jordan Henderson have crossed the 30-year mark.
Sanches, who played mainly as a central midfielder, could provide cover for club captain Jordan Henderson. The English international has been relentlessly playing for the Reds in the past few months, and can do with a breather every now and then.
But it won’t be an easy grab for the Mersyside team as Italian giant AC Milan has joined the race.
It is believed that the Rossoneri are preparing for the departure of Franck Kessie. The Ivorian player has become a key member in recent seasons. But he is currently serving the final year and hasn’t yet penned a renewal. With interests from many elite teams, it’s possible that he could leave the Milan club.
