Manchester City star Raheem Sterling open to Liverpool return

According to El Nacional (h/t Liverpool Echo), England star Raheem Sterling wants to return to Liverpool but could face disapproval from Manchester City in his efforts to do so. 

The English ace is one of the best talents to come through the Reds’ tough ranks in recent years. Primarily a Queen Park Rangers recruit, he honed his skills at Melwood under the Liverpool Academy’s tutelage.

He eventually made it to the first team, going on to make 129 games before moving away from Anfield. 

Since joining Manchester City in 2015, He has become a key performer under Pep Guardiola. He has scored 116 goals and made 89 assists in 307 games for the Sky Blues, helping them win numerous titles on the way.

It is believed that the English player would ‘favour’ a comeback to the Mersyside team despite attracting interest from Barcelona. 

The Catalan team would fancy their chances to acquire a world-class forward to provide new manager Xavi, a competitive squad to work with, in the coming years. They are planning to lure the 26-year-old in the forthcoming January transfer window or the following summer window. 

Getting back their academy graduate and a mature player would help the Reds a lot. The untouchable front three that the Reds possess sometimes brings extra danger as any injury to one of them can give headaches to Jurgen Klopp. 

The Merseyside team bought Diego Jota and Takumi Minamino to form a balanced squad. But Sterling’s abilities are admittedly superior. The 26-year-old player has already proved his worth in the Premier League and could become a star player for the Reds under Klopp. 

More so it will also aid Liverpool in meeting the homegrown players’ quota.

It is believed that Manchester City are not in favour of letting Sterling join a direct rival or any Premier League club for that reason. They would ‘only consider’ foreign clubs as the destination for the player if he decides to leave. 

In such a case, it gives a massive boost to Barcelona, who are tracking the situation to find the right opportunity.
