Jeremy Doku was close to a move to Liverpool in 2018.

He recently ruled out a possibility to see his son in a Blaugrana shirt. He revealed that the Catalan club doesn’t have the financial backing currently to afford Doku.

“We haven’t had any news (from Barca), and I don’t think they are able to spend large sums of money right now.”

Despite the 19-year-old player’s intentions not to change club currently, his father hasn’t ruled out the possibility to move away from Stade Rennais if a suitable proposal emerges and agreed that he received some interest from other clubs.

“There are other clubs that appreciate Jeremy, even if I can’t say anything about it. I don’t think he wants to change (clubs) yet but, in football, everything can change quickly. It depends on which team is interested.”

Jeremy Doku would make for an exciting long-term successor for Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

The forward was linked with Liverpool before he changed club from Anderlecht to Rennes last year. But it seems the Merseyside team’s board haven’t dropped their interest.

Hence, the Spanish giant being ruled out of the race has given Reds a massive boost in the race.

In order to prevent any crisis in the unavailability of their star forward duo during the AFCON tournament in January, Liverpool needs to find some alternatives to play on the wings in important games.
