Transfer News; Newcastle United are keen on signing Liverpool target Luis Diaz
According to Portuguese publication Record (h/t Mirror), Newcastle United are set to compete with Liverpool in the pursuit of Luis Diaz.
The Colombian international burst onto the scene with Porto and is today a household name in Europe. So far, he has been the most lethal striker in the Primeira Liga, with nine goals and two assists in 11 league appearances.
He has helped the Portuguese side to claim the top spot on the table by scoring in important games. Diaz shows no signs of slowing down and continues to enhance his reputation.
The Columbian had an influential campaign with his national side in the Copa America 2020. He has bagged four goals in the competition, making him the joint top scorer with Lionel Messi. Such an attacking display with a high conversion rate have earned him interest from Premier League sides.
It is believed that Newcastle United have joined the race to pursue the 24-year-old player. Now under new ownership, the Magpies are keen to rebuild.
The Dragões would be looking for a hefty profit to sell their star striker. Porto would expect a transfer fee £50m in case any concerned parties decide to put in their bid.
The Magpies would have enough financial backing to become the confident party when going onto the negotiation table for Diaz as, after the Saudi takeover, they have become one of the wealthiest clubs in the world.

Such a scenario can be concerning for the Reds, who are on the hunt for the forward. The Reds are looking to capture a forward in the coming transfer window to prevent a possible drop in the team performance when two of their African star – Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane would be on duty for their countries at the AFCON competition.
