Liverpool receive transfer boost as Borussia Monchengladbach take stance on Denis Zakaria
According to the German publication BILD (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are boosted by the decision of Borussia Monchengladbach on their midfielder Denis Zakaria. However, they will face competition for his signature from other European clubs.
The 25-year-old will see his contract expire in the summer of 2022, and the Reds are keen on taking advantage of this situation. Having established his quality in Bundesliga, getting him as a free agent would be a great deal.
Monchengladbach were engaged in negotiations with the representatives of Zakaria, but they could not reach an agreement over an extension as they are apparently unable to meet the demands of the player as they felt that it was too high.
As a result, the German side is looking to cut their losses and try to move him on in the winter transfer window. He has others suitors across Europe who could force the hands of the English club to put in a bid in January.
Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are keeping tabs on the Swiss international and could pose heavy competition to Jurgen Klopp’s side. With the issues in midfield, it would be wise that his signing is considered a priority as the window draws close.
The Merseyside club has been plagued by injuries this season, and Klopp did not have all the midfield options at the same time. They already know by first-hand how injuries can derail a campaign, and the lack of squad depth can hamper the chances of attaining silverware.

The defensive midfielder can also pop in some goals occasionally which was the case this season in Germany. From ten league matches, he has scored two goals and has assisted once, and this would be a bonus to his game.
However, with other clubs rivalling him for his services, we would need to guarantee him some minutes as there would not be any doubts about the quality of our project.
