Transfer News: Liverpool to try for Chelsea star and US international Christian Pulisic

According to The Daily Star (h/t The Mirror), Liverpool are interested in a ‘shock’ move for Chelsea forward and US international, Christian Pulisic, to bolster their squad.

The Blues had bought the 23-year-old from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £58m in 2019. Following the move, he has played in 82 matches and has scored 19 goals while assisting 14 times in the process.

However, Pulisic is frustrated with his current situation as he has struggled for minutes under Thomas Tuchel. The ankle injury and contracting Covid-19 does not help his case, having missed a considerable portion of the season.

He was involved in the game against Leicester City as he came off the bench to net one for his side. But, he has only started one Premier League match this season and wants to get regular minutes ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The Reds want his signature and are looking to take advantage of this situation to add to their forward line. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have no backup, and while Diogo Jota can play on the wings, it is still not enough.

Salah and Mane could also miss several games for the Merseyside club due to the AFCON competition that is set to happen next year. Their long-term futures at Anfield are also currently up in the air, and the American could provide much-needed quality and depth during the present as well as the future.

While a switch can never be completely overruled in the football world, it is still unlikely that a move would happen. His addition would be great, but the chances of a transfer from a direct rival are always slim.
