According to the Mirror (h/t Liverpool Echo), Lille star Renato Sanches says he feels ‘ready’ to take the big step of his career amid Liverpool interest.
Despite suffering an injury, Renato Sanches had a massive impact on Lille’s French league triumph last season. His recent performances have rejuvenated the interest from the Liverpool board, who targetted him in the summer.
It seems the 24-year-old player has rejuvenated his career in France and is looking to be on the move. Given his shocking spells in Germany and England, the latest hype is welcome news.
The former Bayern Munich player rose to fame for his performance at Benfica in 2015/16. He was termed one of the hottest young prospects in the game and was part of the Portuguese contingent that won the EURO 2016.
His electrifying performance and rapid growth attracted Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich to sign the midfielder for €35m in 2016. But the move hadn’t gone down well for the teenager. He struggled to live up to the expectations in Germany and was loaned to Swansea.
In a recent interview, he opened up on his experience in Germany and agreed that he lacked the spark to showcase his talent at that time.
“When I arrived at Bayern, I was not ready to play in such a club. I was very young. And when I got ready, the opportunity to play with this team never came.”
But he has also suggested that after a successful stint at the French League, he has gained the experience to take up more significant challenges. He also showed his intentions to make a move if some opportunity comes.
“Today, I feel ready. I understand football better, I have more experience, I know what to do to play in this kind of club, and that changes everything.”
The Merseyside team’s board would be happy to hear the Portuguese player’s intentions to feature for bigger teams. They would use the help of such an experienced midfielder to tackle their own challenges in the upcoming seasons..
The Reds recently faced an injury crisis with the midfield players. James Milner, Naby Keïta, Curtis Jones all suffered injuries recently. The lingering issue of an ageing midfield remained unsolved. In such a case, the former Swansea player can become a successful inclusion to the team.
