Lille are looking to boost the price of their star forward Jonathan David amid Liverpool interest
According to L’Equipe (h/t Express), Lille’s Champions League progression could skyrocket the asking price for their star forward Jonathan David, who has attracted interest from Liverpool.
The Canadian is becoming a goalscoring sensation in Ligue 1 and continues to draw attention with his performances. He has already been involved in 12 goals in 22 appearances which makes him the highest scorer in the French league ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Indeed, his talents are no secret and have attracted interest from the Reds. Liverpool could do with a young striker of his talents in the years to come.
However, his increasing valuation could become a concern for the Reds. It is believed that the defending French champion has already put a price tag of £30m. However, if Les Dogues reaches the knockout stage of the Champions League, then they would increase the price even more.
Liverpool are set to lose their prolific African duo – Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the AFCON competition for several weeks next year. Bringing in a player of David’s abilities would certainly help Klopp offset the loss of his two key wingers.
The German manager is now betting on Takumi Minamino and Diego Jota to cover the absence of his twin superstars. Having endured a difficult injury crisis last season, the Reds will be wary of not having strength in depth.
The Canadian player could provide the essential element- goals, keeping Liverpool’s title dreams alive. The Reds need a player of the same skill set and it remains to be seen if he remains affordable.
