“Up to them”- Salah reflects on the Liverpool renewal saga and reacts to Barcelona interest

Mohamed Salah opens up on his contract negotiations with Liverpool amidst Barcelona interest

According to an interview with a TV station in Egypt (h/t Daily Mail), Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has blamed the Reds management for delaying his renewal deal. He also went on to outline a wait and watch approach regarding the possibility of a move to Barcelona.

The Egyptian is currently performing like a reckless bull and shows no intention to slow down. Next season’s Ballon d’Or is not far from his reach if he continues to display such fiery form until the end of the season.

Salah has continued to give one electrifying performance after another in some of the biggest games this season and has scored goals effortlessly. He has bagged19 goals and nine assists in 20 games which makes him a top contender for the Premier League golden boot.

All is well?

Everything looks jolly and cheerful on the pitch for Liverpool. However, the board is yet to sort out off-field discussions with Salah’s representatives. The Egyptian player is entering the final 18 months of his career, and no renewal agreement has been reached between the two parties. With every passing day, the situation is becoming a concern for the Kopites.

In an interview with a local TV station in Egypt, the 29-year-old player put the blame on the Merseyside team’s board and put urgency to reaching an agreement.

“The decision is in the hands of the management, and they have to solve this issue,’ said Salah. There is no problem, but we have to reach an agreement for the contract. It’s up to them.”

Never say never!

Salah acknowledged Barcelona’s interest in signing him and suggested that he currently doesn’t plan to leave the ‘strongest league in the world.’ However, he hasn’t ruled out the future possibility of a move.

“I read what was said about Xavi’s interest to sign me. This is something that makes me happy that a team like Barcelona is interested in me, but I’m happy in Liverpool, and we will see what happens in the future.”

Salah is currently one of the best players in the whole world, and this makes him possibly one of the most important assets in the Liverpool squad. There wouldn’t be any problem for him to find a better paycheck and a new club, however time and again, he has suggested his intentions to continue with the Reds.

Salah keeps writing himself into Liverpool history books.

At this moment, sorting out the Egyptian forward’s contract deal should be treated as the priority task for the Reds board. They should do everything in their power to keep hold of the world-class player.

The ball is firmly in FSG’s court. What they decide to do with it remains to be seen.
