Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp responds to rival manager’s call to postpone all PL games

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp responds to Thomas Frank’s call to postpone all Premier League games

According to the Metro, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp doesn’t think that stopping all Premier League games amid the Covid surge would be a good idea.

The Premier League has been ravaged by a rapid surge of Coronavirus cases in the last two weeks. Big teams like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur Chelsea and Liverpool among others are all affected, and a considerable amount of top-flight players is currently in self-quarantine after getting infected by the deadly virus.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp isn’t sold to the idea of postponing all weekend games to contain the Covid-19 surge.

Many midweek fixtures have been postponed to contain the surge. Liverpool’s last match was one of only two matches that did take place in the midweek. However, Premier League recently announced the postponing of another four matches this weekend as the Covid crisis continues.

Earlier this week, Brentford manager Thomas Frank suggested that Premier League should put a ban on all weekend matches to stop the chain so that the teams could make a fresh start after Christmas. But Jurgen Klopp isn’t sold out by the idea.

The Liverpool manager revealed his disagreement with Frank in postponing all matches. He suggested that the threat will be the same even after they resume normal life after Christmas.

“I know Thomas Frank said he thinks it would be the right thing to stop the league; I don’t see the massive benefit as we come back and the virus is still the same.”

The Reds manager also added that by making some changes in the club competition fixtures, teams could avoid the hectic schedule and prevent unnecessary contacts.

“Stopping the league is probably not the right thing, but with the schedule, we have to be more flexible. We can talk about cup competitions, do we really need to play two semi-finals, play replays, all these sorts of things.”

Liverpool is currently in good form and have put together an excellent set of performances. The Reds are just 1 point behind table topper Manchester City and are eying to leverage the scintillating form of Mohamed Salah to fill that gap.

But, Liverpool have their own Covid problems as Reds were forced to play without Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones in their recent clash due to infections. In such a scenario, there is a possibility of more positive cases coming to light as other players might have come in contact with them in training.

Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t want to lose the advantage, but postponing games now could increase the pressure on the team in the latter half, which also raises the chance of injuries.
