Liverpool have offered youngster Harvey Blair a new contract

According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool has offered young winger Harvey Blair a new contract after impressive performances with the youth team.

Harvey Blair came to Liverpool from Manchester United in 2015. The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2020.

The right-winger has been playing with the U18 side for some time and scored one goal and provided one assist against Sunderland U18 this season. Blair made his senior team debut for Jurgen Klopp’s team against Preston North during the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in October.

Now, Liverpool has announced that Blair has signed a new contract with the club.

Even though Liverpool has a substantial depth in the forward line-up, the coming AFCON tournament could become a problem for Jurgen Klopp. Reds star duo- Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are expected to join their respective national teams during January for the continental competition.

Even though Diego Jota has stepped up this season, Salah and Mane have been two of the most successful forwards in the Premier League this season. Thus, their absence would be a massive blow for the Reds squad.

Jurgen Klopp promoted Harvey Elliott to fill up any void in the squad. But his long term injury has made him unavailable for the German manager.

On top of that, there are Covid concerns in the squad. The Coronavirus situation can worsen in the coming weeks, and many players would require self-isolation.

Therefore, keeping Blair as a backup option would be advantageous for the team. His new contract could signify that Jurgen Klopp is planning big tasks for the youngster.

The 18-year-old Right Winger doesn’t have much top-flight experience, thus making him ready for the enormous task should become a priority for the coaching hierarchy.
