Liverpool are one of the clubs at the forefront to sign Erling Haaland
According to Sky Deutschland (h/t Mirror), Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain have been revealed to have the most substantial claim on signing Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian is one of the most exciting youngsters in the world of football today. The prolific striker has been one of Bundesliga’s top scorers despite missing several games due to injury. The 21-year-old has scored 19 goals and provided five assists in 16 matches across all competitions in this campaign.
Liverpool have been linked with the forward in recent times but so have a handful of European elites. It is believed that French giant PSG and Jurgen Klopp’s team are the only two “obvious buyers” for Haaland.
Liverpool have one of the most fearsome front threes in world football. However, the trio of Mohamed Salah, radio Mane and Roberto Firmino are not getting any younger. More so, none of them are out and out strikers.
While Diego Jota has bolstered Klopp’s options, it won’t be enough to fulfil the long term needs of the team. The German manager clearly needs young blood in the squad to guarantee a smooth transition when vital players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane decides to close the curtain on their illustrious career.
But luring Haaland was looking like a difficult task to achieve as, thanks to the heavy competition, there has been a firm intention from Borussia Dortmund to keep hold of their star forward. But the Champions League elimination could hurt their chance to renew the former Molde forward’s contract.
BVB’s poor goal difference in the Champions League prevented them from going into the next stage of the competition. Now, Haaland and co. would have to play in the Europa League, which could be insufficient for the 21-year-old forward’s giant ambitions.

The Liverpool board should leverage the almost guaranteed Champions League spot during the negotiation and present him with a more ambitious sporting project where he can occupy a key role. However, the Merseyside team would have to beat PSG, who are known for spending big money on players’ transfers.
