Transfer News: Chelsea enter the race to sign Liverpool target Raphinha from Leeds

According to Sport Italia (h/t Daily Express), Chelsea have shown interest in signing Liverpool target and Leeds United star, Raphinha, in the summer of 2022.

Raphinha has developed into a top-class Premier League winger. The Brazilian has become a key player for Marcelo Bielsa’s team, netting eight goals and assisting once in the Premier League this season. The 25-year-old is currently joint-4th on the top-scorers list and is eyeing to bag bigger achievements in the second half of the season.

Liverpool have been targeting Raphinha for a while. The Reds were apparently eyeing to lure the right-winger earlier this year but nothing materialized. It seems Jurgen Klopp’s team has kept the tab on the forward’s situation and are waiting for the right opportunity. But, now it is believed that Chelsea have shown an interest in the Brazilian star.

Liverpool’s African duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane cannot keep playing forever. The amount of times we have seen them in our first-team lineup shows how short-handed we are on the flanks when it comes to depth. Moreover, the club is yet to tie them down to a long-term contract.

Finding a long term replacement is the right approach at this moment. We have arguably found a successor for Roberto Firmino with Diogo Jota as the former Wolves attacker has set the league alight this term.

Raphinha entered the Premier League setting in 2020. The Brazilian took some time to adapt to the English environment but it seems like he has found his rhythm. Investing in such a player is advantageous considering his ability on the ball and his attractive age profile.

He would offer much-needed competition to our wingers and can potentially replace one of them in the future if it ever comes to that. But to do that, we would have to put forth an offer that can help us beat his potential suitors. After just signing Ibrahima Konate in the summer, maybe it’s time for us to cater to other positions on the pitch as well.
