Liverpool plotting double swoop for Real Madrid midfield duo Federico Valverde and Toni Kroos
As per separate reports emerging from Spain, Liverpool are said to be plotting moves for Real Madrid midfielders Federico Valverde and Toni Kroos.
According to El Nacional (h/t Liverpool Echo) It is said that Jurgen Klopp is ‘obsessed’ with signing Valverde and is determined to bring the player to Anfield. Liverpool have had a quiet January transfer window so far, but continue to be linked with big names.
Another report by El Nacional (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that the Merseyside club has identified Kroos as a ‘key target’ in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Although Valverde is under contract with the Spanish side until 2027, the Uruguay international has been miffed with his lack of minutes under new Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. Kroos, on the other hand, will see his deal with Real end in 2023, and could be tempted by a move elsewhere after having spent eight years at the club.
The 23-year-old may prove to be an expensive buy for Liverpool, with rumours of the Reds preparing an offer worth £66m to bring him to Merseyside. Real for their part appear ready to ‘carefully consider’ the offer rather than dismiss it out of hand.
At 32-years-old, Kroos is well past his prime years, but Liverpool are said to have expressed a keen interest in signing the German international. The Reds are readying a £25m bid to bring him to Anfield at the end of the season.
News of an incredible double swoop for Real Madrid’s star midfielders in the summer may excite Liverpool fans, but it would be optimistic to expect both deals to happen.
Valverde would make a fine addition to our squad, and his physical prowess in midfield may prove to be the quality that helps him adapt quickly to the Premier League. However, his price tag is incredibly high, not to mention that the player is also contracted to Real Madrid until 2027, which gives Real the upper hand in negotiations.

Kroos is one of the biggest names in world footballer, with the German hardly putting in a bad performance over his incredible career. Adding a world-class player to our side may be exciting, but age is not on Kroos’ side. Our priority should be to target younger talents who can help us improve.
In a season where our midfield has been a weak link and has cried out for fresh blood, the rumours about signing the Real Madrid duo come as positive news. It remains to be seen who we end up with, come summer.
