Transfer News: Liverpool are thought to have made an offer for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio

According to journalist Eduardo Inda via El Churington (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool and Arsenal are the two clubs that are thought to have made offers for Spanish international Marco Asensio.

The 26-year-old will be out of contract in the summer and it is believed that Real Madrid will try their best to keep him at the club or at the very least avoid losing him on a free transfer. Asensio has made a decent impact with Los Blancos this season scoring nine goals and bagging one assist in 28 matches across all competitions.

The Spanish attacker has won a plethora of trophies with the Spanish club till now including the UEFA Champions League. At 26, the former RCD Mallorca player still has some of his best footballing years ahead of him. It could therefore be a great acquisition for the Reds should they be able to lure him to Anfield that too on a free transfer.

According to journalist Eduardo Inda via El Churington (h/t Liverpool Echo), the English clubs could be offering him a better deal as compared to Real Madrid in terms of wages.

“Asensio has two offers from the UK and his contract expires in 2023. If Real Madrid don’t renew him, he will leave for free in 2023. He has an offer from Arsenal and Liverpool. Madrid have offered him the same, €4.5million, and would renew him for four years with an incentive of €1.5m in variables. He has told the club that the English are offering him 50% more than what Madrid are offering him. Madrid will not reach that figure because we would be talking about €7m.”

Liverpool and a dawn of new attackers

Whilst the Reds have achieved great glory with the attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane in recent years, the club has been smart enough to recruit suitable replacements to future-proof the attacking department.

The acquisition of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have shed light on the positive intent of the club and also their ability to attract exciting prospects to Merseyside. This has also helped increase competition for starting positions as well as help increase the depth of the squad going forward.

The Anfield outfit could thus be looking to add another attacker in their ranks and Asensio could prove to be the perfect option. The Spanish international has already achieved a lot with Real Madrid and his experience at the elite level could be a real plus for the club.

The demands of the La Liga and the Premier league may slightly vary in terms of the intensity and physicality of the game. Plus the high-press style adopted by Klopp demands a lot from its players in terms of stamina.

That being said, the La Liga club wouldn’t want to let go of their star so easily coupled with the interest from the Gunners could make an already tough task even more difficult. Only time can tell whether or not Marco Asensio makes his way to Liverpool but a player with his kind of potential and calibre would seem to be welcome at the club.
