Jurgen Klopp has appealed to the Anfield crowd to make themselves heard against Inter Milan

Writing in his matchday programme notes ahead of the game against Inter Milan, as quoted by Liverpool FC, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has warned his team that it could be a tricky game tonight against Inter Milan and appealed to the crowd to be the team’s 12th man and turn up with all the energy.

Despite having a 2-0 lead from the first leg at the Giuseppe Meazza, Klopp has cautioned his team not to get complacent against a team of Inter’s quality. He went on to express that he expects it to be a tough game tonight and does not expect the Italian club to go down without fighting.

The German manager was full of praise for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, even going as far as calling them a contender for the title along with them. He called the Nerazzurri a well-organised team and that he could not find many weaknesses.

Klopp said that the first leg in Milan was a tough game, unlike what the scoreline suggests. It is good to see that the German is not leaving anything for granted.

To help his team in the quest to beat Inter and progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Klopp appealed to the Anfield crowd to turn up the energy and make it the perfect atmosphere for another classic European night.

“Our supporters need no team-talk for a fixture with this heritage. This special place will be a cauldron of energy tonight, I’m sure. And we will need it.

Anfield – a nightmare for travelling teams?

Anfield is one of the toughest places to visit for any team in world football and we have seen many times in the past where Liverpool have used the help of the crowd and its insane energy to overcome opposition.

Big teams like Barcelona have struggled to deal with the Anfield energy, famously bottling a 3-0 lead from the first leg to get knocked out of the Champions League in 2019. Even the great Johan Cruyff in his autobiography referred to Anfield as the place that sent ‘shivers down his spine‘ due to the sheer energy it exhibited.

The Reds are in a fairly comfortable position going into tonight’s tie against Inter but as the manager keeps on reiterating, crazier things have happened in football before and a two-goal lead is not insurmountable.

If Liverpool can stay focused, play with the intensity they are known for and the Anfield crowd raise their energy levels, Simone Inzaghi and Inter could be in for a very tough game tonight.
