“Most important thing” – Salah gives his verdict as Liverpool fall to Inter bat Anfield

Mohamed Salah believes Liverpool will benefit from the loss to Inter Milan

(subscription required), Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah believes the Reds will benefit from the loss against Inter Milan in the long run.

The Merseysiders dominated proceedings but were beaten 1-0 by the Nerazzurri on their home turf. Thankfully Jurgen Klopp’s men came away from the Giuseppe Meazza with a two-goal lead meaning, they still won the tie on aggregate and qualified for the quarter-finals.

Despite repeated warnings from Klopp in the lead up to the game, Salah admitted

that the Reds may have been guilty of being complacent and taking Inter too lightly. While no large scale harm was done, it will hopefully open our eyes to the dangers that complacency leads to.

Salah went on to add that what ultimately mattered was the fact that Liverpool qualified for the last eight. Now that the dust has settled, Klopp and co can sit down and learn a lesson or two from the game.

“The most important thing is that the team performed and we’re through into the next round.”

The Egyptian superstar added that it was a tough game and that Simone Inzaghi’s side were a very difficult side to face. While Inter did little to threaten us over both legs, the Italian champions certainly made Liverpool earn the win.

The defeat against the Italian giants was Liverpool’s first loss since December 28 when they lost to Brendan Rodger’s Leicester. This has brought their 15 games unbeaten run across all competitions to a close, clearing the slate.

No easy lunches at this level?

Although nobody likes to lose, the defeat against Inter could not have come at a better time for Liverpool. Although the Reds had several chances to put the game to bed, the ball just would not go into the Inter goal.

Having already won the Carabao Cup, Liverpool are still in contention for three other trophies. Performances like the one against Inter will not help the Reds in their quest to win the other trophies and this defeat should serve as a reminder that they will need to be on top of their game until the end of the season.

Klopp will want this defeat to serve as a rap on the knuckles for his players and would act as a boost in their quest for the unprecedented quadruple.

The Reds have been extremely consistent this season, both with their performances and results and the German manager will be hoping the game against Inter was just a small blip in an otherwise almost perfect season, until now.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have often reacted strongly when inflicted with adversity. The German will be hoping for a similar reaction in the weeks to come.
