Transfer News: Liverpool star Divock Origi intrigued by AC Milan contract offer

According to the transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Liverpool forward Divock Origi is really intrigued by the contract offer made to him by AC Milan. He is likely to leave Anfield in the summer transfer window as uncertainty surrounds his future on Merseyside.

The Belgian is in the final year of his current contract with the Reds, and it seems that an extension is off the cards at this moment. It is also claimed that the board is preparing for his eventual departure and they consider an exit likely.

Milan are ramping up the efforts at this instant as they look to reach a verbal agreement with the 26-year-old’s representatives at the earliest. Negotiations are progressing for now and common ground could be reached eventually, looking at the current circumstances.

Should Liverpool renew Origi?

The Belgian international has struggled to break into the team this season, having garnered just 533 minutes across all competitions. While the striker has scored five goals and assisted three times

As such, it is understandable if Jurgen Klopp’s side decides to let him leave after this campaign, with Takumi Minamino also in the mix as an option in that role. Minamino can also play in a similar position, indicating how we can afford to lose Origi on a free transfer.

Origi is a fan favourite at the Merseyside club and there are few players who are content playing a backup role despite impressing regularly off the bench. That being said, we cannot certainly hold anything against him if he expresses his desire to seek more playing time elsewhere.

Now the board must prepare for a worst-case scenario and look at adequate replacements moving forward. The likes of Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino can play in the centre of the attacking trident while having the capabilities to play on the wings as well.

As such, we may not necessarily need a direct replacement for Origi and we could look to bring in a winger, especially on the right-hand side. After all, we do not have a solid option to provide backup to Mohamed Salah, unlike the case with Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz. It remains to be seen how this situation would turn out to be in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window.
