Transfer News: Liverpool target Raphinha rejects contract offer from Leeds United amidst Barcelona interest
According to the Brazilian news outlet UOL (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool target Raphinha have rejected the latest contract offer from Leeds United amidst interest from Barcelona. He has reached greater heights over the past year or so and is one of the best wingers in the Premier League right now.
Leeds had proposed a contract extension to the Brazilian, which would have seen him nearly double his current wages. However, it is claimed that the forward has “rejected” the proposal as he would only accept the offer if the £70million release clause in his contract is reduced. The Reds have been given a boost due to this update as they could try to take advantage of this situation.
The Whites have denied the 25-year-old’s demands which has, in turn, resulted in an “interruption” in the contract negotiations. The Merseyside club would no doubt be happy by how this situation has unravelled, but they would need to be wary of the competition. Barca are in the race, but they are only the only ones as Bayern Munich are also monitoring the attacker.
Raphinha to Liverpool?
The Premier League ace has been one of the few brightest sparks for his side this season, and he has often carried them as well. With nine goals and three assists to his name from 28 matches across all competitions, his contributions have kept them just above the relegation zone.
The South American would no doubt perform even better under a stronger side which is evident from his time with the national team. As such, we must try and get him in the bag at the earliest, considering how we do need a right-winger in our squad.
Mohamed Salah is the only quality option, while Takumi Minamino has failed to reach the expectations in which he was signed. Raphinha can be a great choice, and a move for him definitely makes sense considering how this transfer would result in a similar situation surrounding Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane.

Since the Leeds superstar’s contract will expire in 2024, the current disruption in talks would be helpful for Jurgen Klopp’s side to make their case. Our chances could get better even further if his team would drop down to the Championship at the end of this campaign.
However, we should always be on our toes with Bayern Munchen and the Blaugrana club vying to secure the Brazil international’s services as well. It remains to be seen how this situation would turn out to be in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window. But we are hopeful that the board can continue to back our manager by bolstering our options with Raphinha.
