Transfer News: Deal in place for Liverpool to sign Celtic starlet Ben Doak
According to Athletic’s James Pearce (Subscription Required), Liverpool have already secured a deal to sign Celtic winger Ben Doak.
16-year-old Doak has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs other than Liverpool with Leeds United also said to be interested in the Scottish starlet, but the Scotsman is keen on joining Anfield.
The Celtic youth player is capable of playing on either wing and also attacking midfield. The Scottish club’s boss handed him his senior debut against Dundee United in January but he has not featured for them since late February.
Whilst the Peacocks are said to be offering the 16-year-old a more lucrative deal, the player’s heart is said to lean towards joining the Reds. The Scottish talent could continue his development in one of the best clubs in the world as he aims to maximize his potential.
With a deal in principle to come to Anfield, Liverpool have managed to add yet another talented youngster to their already exemplary ranks.
A signing for the future?
The Scottish sensation is widely regarded as one of the best talents coming out of the Celtic youth ranks in recent times and it’s no surprise that Liverpool have decided to sign him. After all, a club like LFC wouldn’t just sign any unknown quantity without doing their fair bit of research.
Jurgen Klopp has a reputation for developing youngsters as we have seen with Trent Alexander-Arnold, and more recently Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott; Ben Doak could be the latest addition to the list.
Doak scored a hat-trick for Scotland U-17s against Georgia this week. The Reds will have to wait until next season to see the Scottish sensation play in the Reds academy but it is claimed that a deal has been agreed with £600,000 to be paid in compensation to the Scottish giants.
There may not be many places better than this in the world for the Celtic wonderkid to develop and with the correct guidance, he might turn out to be a future star. Klopp has shown that he is ready to give opportunities to young players if they prove their worth in the academy and training.
