Benfica have reached out to Wolves for data on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool
According to the Daily Mail, Benfica have reached out to Wolverhampton Wanderers for analysis on Liverpool ahead of their Champions League clash tonight.
The Portuguese side have been flying high in this year’s Champions League, managing to get out of a group ahead of Barcelona and beating Ajax Amsterdam on their way to the quarter-final stage. While they did have luck going for them, it will be foolhardy on Liverpool’s part to underestimate the Portuguese giants.
However, if they are to continue their winning run, they face a stern test in the form of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Reds have been one of the best teams in Europe this season and will be expected to overcome Benfica over the two legs.
With all the odds stacked against them, Benfica have resorted to desperate measures in order to be thoroughly prepared for all scenarios against the Merseysiders. The Portuguese club have apparently approached Wolves for their data on the Anfield based club from their previous encounter this season.
The analysis is said to have a special emphasis on the offensive movements of both full-backs as well as the runs of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. It also includes how Liverpool change once the influential Thiago Alcantara enters the pitch.
While there have been no direct contacts with former Benfica and current Wolves manager Bruno Lage, the data analysts of both teams have interacted with each other.
Another underdog story?
Benfica have done very well to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League and this Cup run has so far exceeded all expectations. Liverpool admittedly were lucky enough to draw the Eagles but will now have to prove their superiority on the pitch.
Only three teams have beaten Liverpool in all competitions this season and Benfica will need to do something special to join that elite list. The Reds have often taken each game as it comes and they will be p[prepared for the game later tonight.
It is evident that Benfica are taking this game very seriously as shown by the fact that they have approached Wolves to get data to analyse Liverpool. Whether they can discover a weak link in the armour that Lage and co failed to do remains to be seen.

The Reds are expected to get past Benfica, especially over two legs. Liverpool are in the hunt for a quadruple this season. They have already secured the Carabao Cup and are going strong in all three competitions.
Starting tonight, Liverpool have a title-defining two weeks ahead of them which could make or break the season. It remains to be seen if they are calm and cool as always and get the job done.
